We have decided not to continue with the Monday afternoon Bridge sessions. This had been a trial to judge the level of interest: numbers have not been high enough for us to continue. There will therefore be no further Bridge sessions on Mondays. Tuesday evening continues as usual.
We have been given a last moment stay of execution by the Red Lion! Parking will remain free until the end of November. However, I would still strongly recommend finding an alternative whenever possible. Depending on the number of tables that evening, the car park may become extremely congested.
Hope you’re having a good week.
The Red Lion has imposed a £5 per vehicle charge to use their car-park. This will start from this Monday 27 October (giving us only one week’s notice).
If you are willing to pay this charge, then please take your keys to reception to register and pay. However, I suggest we all look for alternatives: the car-parks at Waitrose and Greys Road are both free in the evening as is parking on the street (where available). Some of you will be in a position to park at Phyllis Court or the Leander Club. Please let me know your views on this new parking charge and its impact on you.
I’m also looking at alternative venues from January next year. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. In particular, we might consider changing our evening from Tuesday to Wednesday or Thursday to provide more options on venues. Again, please let me know how this change of evening would affect you (if at all).
Hope you’re enjoying the weekend and to see you again soon!
All the best,
A quick reminder that we hold a relaxed, friendly Bridge game on Monday afternoons at 2pm at the Red Lion Hotel in Henley. The session is informally hosted by group members and an ideal opportunity to get together to play enjoyable Rubber Bridge or Chicago. No need to book, just turn up – all welcome. Please come and support this if you would like it to continue. The price is £5 per session.
Please also note that the calendar on our website (“Programme” under “Lessons”) is always up to date with all the details of sessions and events.
Announcements (including cancellations or changes to sessions) and updates are posted under “Latest News”. Please keep an eye on this.
Hope you’re enjoying the weekend (perfect Bridge playing weather today!).
Hope this finds you all well and looking forward to the weekend.
There will be no Bridge this Monday (30 September) at 2pm at the Red Lion due to the Henley Literary Festival that week. Bridge on Monday will resume as normal the following week.
We shall be there on Tuesday evening (01 October) at 7pm for Bridge as usual. However, for that week only, there will no parking available at the Red Lion.
Apologies for any inconvenience either of the above may cause.
Hope to see as many of you as possible again soon!
It is with some regret and much sadness that I tell you that I start a full-time job in Henley from early September (back in the ‘real’ world). This was not an easy decision and reached only in the last week or so. Much as I enjoy running The Bridge School, I am also clear that family life has to take priority. I am extremely grateful for all your support and will miss the range of sessions, seminars, events, and private groups.
The Henley Bridge School will continue! I shall be at the Red Lion on Tuesday evenings and offer six Bridge in a Day courses on Saturdays during the year. Please see the newsletter below for our programme from September. Though it is not possible for the moment to offer courses of lessons other than Bridge in a Day, we have added an optional ‘mini-lesson’ to Supervised Play on Tuesday evenings. I also hope to organise or help with occasional Bridge events, including for charity.
Please find further background and details in the newsletter below:

Please stay in touch. All the best with your Bridge!
We are no longer running Supervised Play on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm. All now welcome to the Tuesday session at 7:30pm at the Red Lion in Henley.
Depending on numbers, we shall be offering Rubber Bridge, Chicago, and Duplicate according to experience and preference. Still the same relaxed and friendly learning environment to ask questions and discuss our triumphs (and occasional disasters!). All levels welcome from those just starting and improving to the more advanced.
Hope to see you again soon!
Please note that there will be no Supervised Play this Monday (29 July) at 4pm at the Red Lion. We’re back the following week (05 August) as usual.
Hope you’re all enjoying the summer!
We shall be enjoying Bridge throughout the summer with three sessions of Supervised Play each week! These will run through June, July, and August into September. All our sessions are currently held at the Red Lion Hotel in Henley.
Supervised Play is the ideal format to consolidate and improve – a learning environment with emphasis on relaxed and enjoyable Bridge.
