A quick reminder we are running this one day course, the last in our current programme, on Saturday 29 March. Improving Bridge is designed for intermediate players looking to progress further. It follows Developing Bridge and is the fourth course in our series.
We cover bidding and card play (declarer play and defence) including:
- Limit bids – responder’s rebid (fourth bid in the auction)
- Coping with intervention
- When to draw trumps
- Defensive signals
We have a few places remaining and it would be fantastic if as many of you as possible joined us. If so, I require confirmation as soon as possible. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Hope you’re all enjoying the sunshine this weekend!
We have confirmed dates with the Red Lion to run through to the Tuesday before Easter (15 April). However, there are two dates which are not possible:
Tuesday 14 January (i.e. this Tuesday!)
Tuesday 04 February
There is always an up to date schedule of our sessions on the website (under “Lessons” then “Programme”).
A quick reminder Supervised Play (with ‘mini-lesson’ beforehand) starts again from this Tuesday (07 January). Same time (7pm), same place (Red Lion Hotel in Henley). Please note the Red Lion will be charging £5 for parking.
Happy New Year!
Hope this finds you all well and looking forward to the weekend.
There will be no Bridge this Monday (30 September) at 2pm at the Red Lion due to the Henley Literary Festival that week. Bridge on Monday will resume as normal the following week.
We shall be there on Tuesday evening (01 October) at 7pm for Bridge as usual. However, for that week only, there will no parking available at the Red Lion.
Apologies for any inconvenience either of the above may cause.
Hope to see as many of you as possible again soon!
It is with some regret and much sadness that I tell you that I start a full-time job in Henley from early September (back in the ‘real’ world). This was not an easy decision and reached only in the last week or so. Much as I enjoy running The Bridge School, I am also clear that family life has to take priority. I am extremely grateful for all your support and will miss the range of sessions, seminars, events, and private groups.
The Henley Bridge School will continue! I shall be at the Red Lion on Tuesday evenings and offer six Bridge in a Day courses on Saturdays during the year. Please see the newsletter below for our programme from September. Though it is not possible for the moment to offer courses of lessons other than Bridge in a Day, we have added an optional ‘mini-lesson’ to Supervised Play on Tuesday evenings. I also hope to organise or help with occasional Bridge events, including for charity.
Please find further background and details in the newsletter below:
2013-14 The Future newsletter
Please stay in touch. All the best with your Bridge!
We are no longer running Supervised Play on Thursday evenings at 7:30pm. All now welcome to the Tuesday session at 7:30pm at the Red Lion in Henley.
Depending on numbers, we shall be offering Rubber Bridge, Chicago, and Duplicate according to experience and preference. Still the same relaxed and friendly learning environment to ask questions and discuss our triumphs (and occasional disasters!). All levels welcome from those just starting and improving to the more advanced.
Hope to see you again soon!
Please note that there will be no Supervised Play this Monday (29 July) at 4pm at the Red Lion. We’re back the following week (05 August) as usual.
Hope you’re all enjoying the summer!
We’re excited to be launching some fantastic Bridge holidays for 2012-13!
Join us for breathtaking scenery and friendly Bridge in exclusive luxury chalets in the Three Valleys, France.
Relax in front of a blazing log fire in the magnificent ancestral home of the Duke of Norfolk during an early Christmas break. In summer enjoy afternoon tea in the beautiful gardens and a stroll in the tranquil parkland and woods.
Taste the finest Burgundy wines with authentic French cuisine and hear from acclaimed local wine expert. Tour regional vineyards and world famous historic sites. Relax afterwards and enjoy Bridge at La Maison Du Chateau, a wonderful French manor house set in idyllic parkland.
The England Women and Senior teams have qualified for the last 16 of the Word Mind Sports Games being held in Lille, France. Sadly the Open team has been knocked out. Take a look at what’s happening with the World Bridge Federation or English Bridge Union.
In addition to Bridge, the World Mind Sports Games includes Chess, Draughts, and Go. It is held every four years in the year of the Olympics.
We’re excited to be using two fantastic new venues to teach and to play Bridge from 10 September. For most of the week (all day Tuesday, Wednesday evening, and Thursday evening) we’re going to be based at Henley Cricket Club. The pavilion has been superbly refurbished with bar and coffee shop and parking available outside. On Wednesday morning, we’re using the Nettlebed Village Club to play Duplicate Bridge. Again, parking available outside or across the road next to the Field Kitchen (an excellent coffee shop).
We continue at the Red Lion, Henley all day on Monday (including the evening).
Directions to Henley Cricket Club: From Henley, cross the river and look for a left turn just past The Little Angel pub and the road to Wargrave (on the right).
