I hope this finds you well and enjoying Bridge.
Back from 07 January
First, a reminder that there is no Bridge in December. We’re back from Tuesday 07 January at 7pm with our usual format: a short ‘mini-lesson’ followed by Supervised Play from 7:30pm. It’s our established learning environment with emphasis on welcoming and relaxed Bridge.
If you’re looking for lessons, we’re offering the following Saturday courses in 2014 (‘Bridge in a Day’). All are held from 10am to 5pm at Hennerton Golf Club near Wargrave. The price is £75 including lunch and tea/coffee during the day. We’d be delighted if you joined us – all welcome!
25 January – Beginning Bridge
Our first course for those new to Bridge. By the end, you’ll have a basic understanding of Bridge and enjoy playing with family or friends. No prior knowledge or experience required.
22 February – Developing Bridge
Our third course suited to those playing for 6-12 months. We tell you about some popular ‘conventions’ and look at key techniques for Declarer and Defenders.
29 March- Improving Bridge
For those with a bit more experience (1-2 years) looking to progress further. We go deeper into the auction and focus on Declarer play to help you reach the next level.
All courses subject to minimum numbers (maximum of 16). Registration and payment required at least one week in advance.
Have fun over Christmas and New Year. Hope to see as many of you as possible in 2014…
1. New courses. Our next lessons start from Monday 22 April. Here are the options:
Monday 1:30pm – Sharpening Bridge (advanced – reversing, calculating odds and combining chances)
Monday 7:30pm – Continuing Bridge (follows Beginning Bridge – 2-level and 3-level opening bids)
Wednesday 4pm – Key Conventions 2 (advanced – splinters, RKCB, two-suited overcalls)
Wednesday 7:30pm – Developing Bridge (follows Continuing Bridge – Stayman, Blackwood, take-out doubles)
All the Supervised Play sessions are running as usual. Take a look at our current programme.
Please confirm by Sunday 14 April if you wish to join us for any of the courses.
2. Change of venue. From next week (Monday 15 April) all our sessions (including the lessons above) are at the Red Lion Hotel.
3. Cancelled session. Please note there is no Bridge 4-6pm this Tuesday (16 April), our Deal & Discuss session.

We have courses of lessons starting from 04 March and again from 22 April. In March we have two courses for complete beginners. From April we offer two courses for more experienced players – Sharpening Bridge (our most advanced yet) and Key Conventions 2. There are lessons for all levels in between as well! Dates also to learn in a day (‘Bridge in a Day‘).
Courses are complemented by our practice sessions – Supervised Play. This is the ideal format to consolidate and improve – a learning environment with emphasis on relaxed and enjoyable Bridge. Note that these sessions continue without interruption until at least the end of May – the only exception is Easter Monday when there is no Bridge.
We continue at Henley Cricket Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 11 April. From then on all sessions will be held at the Red Lion.
Due to cancellations, there are again a few spaces remaining at the charity Bridge drive on 01 March.
Please contact us with any questions – we’re always pleased to hear from you!
With kind regards,

We’re back from 14 January with a new format for Duplicate Bridge – Deal & Discuss. This is Duplicate Bridge with a difference! First play each deal in our friendly and enjoyable atmosphere. Then take a look, discuss what might have happened, and learn from any mistakes.
As ever, we’re running lessons for all levels from absolute beginner to more experienced club players. Take a look at our courses for 2013. There’s always our option to learn in a day (‘Bridge in a Day’) rather than during a 6-week course. Find our dates here.

There are now two options for Supervised Play, our relaxed and friendly practice sessions:
1. Learning and Improving
Designed particularly for those just starting Bridge and in their first year or two of learning to play. Sessions at 4pm on Monday at the Red Lion and 7pm on Tuesday at Henley Cricket Club.
2. Introduction to Duplicate Bridge
An opportunity to learn Duplicate Bridge – exciting and fun to play! Still our same learning environment in which to ask questions and discuss what might have happened. All welcome, including those completely new to Duplicate Bridge. Sessions at 10am on Tuesday and 7pm on Thursday both at Henley Cricket Club.
Our new Gentle Duplicate session for those who would just like to play Bridge. A welcoming and encouraging atmosphere with help on how to score and move. No partner required – come along and we’ll arrange the numbers. Sessions 10am to 12:30pm on Wednesday at Nettlebed Village Club.
For details of our lessons, please take a look at our current programme and information on our courses.
I’m afraid we have to cancel the supervised play session at 10am this Tuesday (01 May) at the Red Lion Hotel in Henley. We are running as usual in the evening at 7pm. A reminder also that there is no Bridge at all (lessons or supervised play) the following week (from Monday 07 to Friday 11 May).
Bridge otherwise continues uninterrupted through to Thursday 21 June. Take a look at our programme for full details. Be delighted to welcome as many of you as possible until then!
Please note that we are no longer able to use the White Hart in Nettlebed. From Thursday 23 February we shall be based at the Red Lion in Henley for all sessions during the week (lessons and supervised play). We have a fantastic wood-panelled room overlooking the river. Parking is available to the rear of the hotel.
We continue to hold Bridge in a Day at Hennerton Golf Club near Wargrave on Saturdays.
Our next term begins on 27 February and runs until Easter (05 April). We are running courses of lessons for all levels from complete beginner through intermediate to more advanced. Please take a look at our full newsletter for details.
Our supervised play sessions continue at the same times (Monday at 4pm, Wednesday at 10am, and Thursday at 7pm). In addition, Tuesday at 7pm is designed particularly for those just starting to play. No need to book or come with a partner – just turn up. Relaxed and enjoyable Bridge in a learning environment.
Don’t forget our 1-day option ‘Bridge in a Day’ – the same courses on a Saturday rather than over six weeks. Please see our dates below. We have a new format for 2012: Deals to Discuss. Play prepared deals then discuss what should have happened afterwards. The ideal tool to learn and enjoy Bridge at the same time.
As ever, we’re based at the Red Lion in Henley on Mondays; the White Hart in Nettlebed from Tuesday to Thursday; and at Hennerton Golf Club near Wargrave on Saturdays.
For further information, please take a look at our current programme and our courses.
Wishing you all lots of enjoyable Bridge in 2012!
